So I have a bad habit of going incognito when I’m online.
It’s for everything I do. If I’m on facebook, it’s incognito. If I’m on youtube, it’s incognito. If I’m doing a school project, it’s incognito. It started out because I was figured it would be easier if I got into the habit since it will be very uncomfortable for every one who uses the computer to see my questionable history otherwise (Ahem..). But now it’s become ridiculous. I actually do work on my computer these days (which was a shock when I realized it), and if I have to quit midway through “researching“, I have no way of getting back to that exact point unless I know exactly which site/page/video I was on. There is no history. Like, Seriously no history of when I use the computer. People don’t think it’s strange since they assume I’m just playing video games or something. But it’s become inconvenient to me now.
The other day, I had to submit a 6 page ppt on the topic Rank of a Matrix (the internet was nearly no help. We need more people uploading their projects so that I can pass them off as my own). When after nearly half an hour of back-breaking work, I finally found a page that was somewhat useful, I had to get up due to unforeseen problems (there was a loud noise downstairs). I did what most teenagers do whenever they’re on the internet and something happens. I shut down my browser without thinking. It was after a while that I realized what I had done. It was already late, I’d told my parents and my group members that my project was complete and I had to be in bed in less than 10 minutes. The world was crashing down around me. It was horrible.
I had three choices.
- I could honestly admit that I had lied and that my part of the project was not done and then receive a lot of yelling from family and friends.
Needless to say, I was not keen on no 1
2.I could fake being sick and so put off going to college the next day.
I knew my group members would just tell me to email them my presentation. So, no good.
3.I could shamelessly go to sleep, take a corrupted ppt to college and then blame the college computers when it wouldn’t work.
It was a good plan. Maybe a bit used, but I like it nevertheless. I decided to go with it.
But thankfully I didn’t have to. My super memory skills helped me actually remember what I’d typed into google to search for that damned ppt, and I was able to get it again in less than half an hour this time. The world was good again.
But it wouldn’t have been had I not had super memory skills that help me remember stuff from as far as one hour ago.
Many of you might not be so gifted. That would mean you would be in trouble. And the whole group losing marks thing (I didn’t think of that at all. I wonder why). So I would like to tell you to actually use the browser the way it is supposed to be used. Not by just going incognito. I say as I post this stuff from my incognito browser. But you get my point.
